In the new issue of "Backwoods Home" magazine (Nov./Dec.'09), Massad Ayoob writes, in his article entitled "The All American 1911 Pistol", that "Ruger is ready to introduce a low-priced, high quality 1911."

Does anyone have any info on this, as to a release date?

If Ruger puts out a 1911 with the right price point, I am THERE.

I do love Rugers!

I can get behind that. Ruger makes a stone reliable gun. And I do like 1911's. I'd hope they wouldn't do anything silly like make proprietary parts, so stuff doesn't interchange.

This has been rumored on one Ruger forum for as long as I've been there. Will be interesting to see if Ruger throws at least one proprietary cosmetic change on the thing and screws up the looks, as SIG did. :(

On a side note, did SIG ever get their QC problems sorted out with their 1911's?

I'd be expecting a conventional all-steel 1911, well made at a reasonable price point, probably with a big-ass "SR1911" billboard on the slide (hope I'm wrong on that).

Ed, problems with the SIG GSR seem to have stemmed mainly from vendor-provided parts. With more being done in-house in Exeter, QC seems to have gone back up, from what I've seen.

Cordially,
Mas

Mr. Ayoob: Thanks for the heads up. When I read about it in your article, I knew there had to be something to it.

Thanks also for turning me on to "Backwoods Home" magazine. It was from doing a search for your articles that I discovered the magazine. Good stuff.

With all of their recent polymer frame models, I'd like to see what Ruger could do with a poly frame similar to the BUL/Wilson KZ-45 model.

A 4" model with the light weight of poly frame at the right price would make a very appealing CCW option.
